Hailing from its hometown in Port Elizabeth, South Africa 2 birds landing present... The Carpet as Art
Tired of same-old same-old, Jacqui van der Westhuizen in her natural, daring, modern manner created a runner for her home. Mesmerized by the outcome Tania Ahlfeldt did the equivalent and together 2 birds landing was birthed.
The carpets are produced using the BELGOTEX range of carpet materials.
There are 5 Carpet lines to choose from.
Luxury Collection
Here we use cut pile or twist carpeting. It is plush, soft and comfortable underfoot. The Luxury Collection uses Belgotex Obsession, Royal Twist and Westminster carpet ranges. We insert a graphic design such as a basic cross, star, circle or heart. A very popular runner has been the one that says ‘walk’. It’s tongue in cheek, yet luxurious.
Retro Collection
This is a retro design option using a carpet range that is reminiscent of the 70’s. Belgotex Colour Velvet carpet range is colourfast and stain resistant. It has no pile and looks virtually like felt.
Stencil Collection
This is an exciting one. We use the Colour Velvet carpet range. The carpet is backed with non-slip rubber and an intricate design is cut all the way through. Your floor is seen through the carpet and forms part of the design.
Grass Collection
We use Belgotex Gardengrass to create a lively carpet with impact. Graphic design elements are inserted using Obsession, Royal Twist or Westminster carpet ranges.
Freeform
We are currently working on a collection called Freeform and also enjoy doing custom made work.

What is your background?
I have a NHD in Quantity Surveying but I have always sought ways to express
my creativity. With 2birdslanding I have found the artistic fulfillment which
I had yearned for.
What is your favorite carpet line?
The Stencil Collection - it’s unlike anything else on the global market.
Is South Africa ready for this?
Absolutely! We are realistic about the economic state we live in, yet believe
there's still space for progress. We are creating a product that is not
overpriced and can stand proudly among other South African designs in the
global market. We are willing to take chances and have tremendous confidence
and love for a product that is well-designed, unique and useful.
What do you enjoy most about creating carpets?
I enjoy the response we get from our clients when they see their carpet laid
out in the space for which it was created.
Tania
What is your background?
I have a background in Fine Arts, retail and the magazine industry. Everything
I’ve ever done has had an intense creative spin.
Why carpets?
We laugh and ask, "Have you ever tried to find a decent runner in this
place?" Creating carpets was born out of a need - as most interesting
projects are. Our carpets were definite conversation pieces and things just
grew from there.
What is your look?
We have a design ethic that is contemporary. All of our carpets are bold and
fresh. The design is graphic and definitely doesn’t cower at floor level...
We know they have global appeal.
What do you enjoy most about your product?
I love the fact that they have artistic value and human connection. There is
a certain joy in experiencing the pleasure that our clients feel when our
product is placed in their space.
